Music at Asbury, well-known for its concerts and musicals at Asbury-Crestwood United Methodist Church, presents “A Tribute to Jerome Kern: Songs and Stories Celebrating The American Songbook” at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 13. (The rain date is Saturday, June 19, at 4 p.m.)

Composer Kern (1885-1945) is perhaps best-known today for “Showboat,” his 1927 collaboration with lyricist Oscar Hammerstein, whose portrayal of life and racial tensions on a Mississippi riverboat still resonates today. It contains some of their best work, including a song that encapsulates the human condition, “Ol’ Man River.” But Kern wrote many other memorable songs from shows long forgotten, including “I’m Old-Fashioned” and “The Way You Look Tonight.”

“A Tribute to Jerome Kern” stars Robin Aleman, Michael Quigley and Anthony Valbiro, with direction by Mauro Contrastano and musical direction by Donna Cribari.
