Cocktails with Tiffany’s

Tiffany & Co. sure knows how to throw a party. Its “Great Gatsby” salute – to accompany a collection featured in the 2013 movie – was a party to make even Jay Gatsby emerald with envy. The latest shindig, to unveil some dazzling new collections – Prism and Emeralds and Pearls – was a sleekly glamorous affair with silken panels, squash blossoms and other delectable hors d’oeuvres, snow-cone cocktails, Champagne and talk of the upcoming Fashion Week, all set atop the MetLife Building, where you felt as if you could touch the neighboring Chrysler Building.

That favorite landmark of New Yorkers formed an incandescent triangle with the Empire State Building to the West and One World Trade farther south as the sun set.

Their diamantine brilliance served as an appropriately sparkling backdrop for Tiffany creative director Francesca Amfitheatrof’s  new work – multi-gemstone rings, cluster rings and cuffs ingeniously designed to bring different colors and textures to the fore with light and movement. They dazzled.

And then the lights came on the Chrysler and her sister skyscrapers. Magic.
