Viggo Mortensen discusses new film on dementia, caretakers

The Jacob Burns Film Center welcomes back Viggo Mortensen for a live virtual discussion of his new film “Falling” with JBFC president Janet Maslin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27.

The film tells the story of a gay man (Mortensen), whose family life is upended when he bring his headstrong father (Lance Henriksen), in the early stages of dementia, to live with him.

It’s a topic that the film world is increasingly exploring as more and more individuals receive the devastating diagnosis, which is just as shattering for caregivers. “The Father,” starring Oscar winners Anthony Hopkins as an aging man with memory loss and Olivia Colman (“The Crown”) as the daughter who moves in with him, will be released in March.

RSVP for the free“Falling” discussion here.  Falling” is available to watch exclusively in the JBFC Virtual Screening Room until Feb. 5.
