Empowering women

Journalist and activist Gretchen Carlson and former National Security Adviser and U.N. Ambassador Susan E. Rice will serve as keynote speakers for the March 19 “Westchester Women’s Summit” at the Doubletree Hilton Hotel in Tarrytown, sponsored in part by Westfair Communications Inc., WAG’s parent company.

Rice, author of the recent “Tough Love: My Story of the Things Worth Fighting For” (Simon & Schuster, $30), and Carlson, who fired one of the first salvos in what would become #MeToo when she successfully sued Fox for sexual harassment, will headline a day featuring local trailblazers sharing their wit and wisdom. More than 500 are expected to attend the daylong event, the brainchild of Rose Cappa, president of Doubletree’sEvent Department, who believes the time is ripe for women to step up to the plate to bring about change. “There are so many ways in which women can be transformational,” she says, “so I thought a conference like this one, populated by outstanding women in various fields, would generate empowerment, growth and self-discovery.”

She adds that the conference will convene women of all ages and backgrounds and cover many issues of interest to them.

“Despite many advances, women today still crave information about how to raise girls to be strong leaders, how to become active in political and civic life, how to achieve a good work/life balance, how to prepare for the tech economy and even how to reboot your life if you have to start over. We plan to address those issues and so much more.”

Tickets are $175 per person for the full day which includes breakfast, lunch, wine & chocolate reception and all the programming; $250 for the opportunity to also be included in private receptions with the keynote speakers.
