In the battle against Covid-19, Wartburg in Mount Vernon has reached another milestone – its first independent living resident vaccination. Azilda Sauls, a resident of Friedrichs, received her first of two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine on Wednesday, Feb. 24.

It was late Jan. 8, when Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that, starting Jan. 11, New York state would expand the list of people eligible for Covid vaccinations to the populations in the state’s 1b grouping, which includes individuals 75 years and older.  Four days later, the state’s eligibility widened to include those over age 65.  Dr. David J. Gentner, Wartburg’s president, said, “Although we were given very little notice, we are grateful that our institutional pharmacy partner PharmScript was able to put a plan together so quickly to include those on the campus who are over the age of 65 and living independently.”
