Giving voice to Ukraine

Fairfield University sheds light on Ukraine in March 28 webinar.

On Monday, March 28, at 2 p.m., Fairfield University’s Charles F. Dolan School of Business will co-host the free webinar “Voices of Ukraine:  Reflections on War.”  

The Zoom discussion with Ukrainians and Ukraine subject experts, is co-moderated by Dolan School professor of economics Kathryn Nantz, Ph.D., and David Schmidt, Ph.D., director of the Patrick J. Waide Center for Applied Ethics and an associate professor of business ethics. They served as consultants and training facilitators on the Ukraine Academic Integrity Project, “The Strengthening of Academic Integrity in Ukrainian Higher Education Program (SAIUP),” implemented by American Councils for International Education, which promotes reform through a public diplomacy partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv. Nantz and Schmidt traveled to Ukraine for multiple consultations from 2016 to ’19. 

The panelists are: 
Yana Chapailo, a Fulbright scholar from Slavuta, Ukraine, pursuing graduate studies in international education policy at the University of Maryland, College Park. Chapailo formerly served as American Councils program manager in Ukraine, from 2015 to ’21. 

Nataliia Goshylyk, associate professor of English at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University in Ukraine, a Fulbright visiting professor in the Berkeley Language Center at University of California, Berkeley. Goshylyk’s research interests include cognitive linguistics, ecolinguistics, discourse analysis, intercultural communication, methods of foreign language teaching, media literacy and academic integrity.  

Conrad Turner, minister-counselor of the Foreign Service of the United States of America, retired, a specialist in public diplomacy and communications. He has worked for the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Information Agency, including as public diplomat, section head and senior foreign service officer in U.S. embassies in India (Bhutan), Ukraine, Iraq, Serbia, Croatia and Kyrgyzstan, with additional positions in Russia and Belarus.
