Happy winter solstice

Hello, winter.

Today at 10:58 a.m. EST marks the winter solstice, when the sun is the farthest south, producing the shortest day and longest night in the Northern Hemisphere. It’s also the first day of winter.

On the other hand, we’re having a relatively mild December and the days are about to get longer. So there’s that, along with sights and sounds to gladden the senses and warm the heart.

Celebrate the solstice and the early winter season in magical style at Untermeyer Gardens Conservancy in Yonkers. Through Jan. 2, the Greco-Persian site’s Walled Garden is electric, literally, with 100,000 lights. Enjoy seasonal multicultural music, in keeping with Untermeyer’s diverse influences; free hot chocolate; and free admission 4:30 to 8 p.m. daily. For more, visit untermyergardens.org. And for more on cultural sites in Yonkers, check out WAG’s December salute to the city. https://www.wagmag.com/december-2021/
