Hilda Green Demsky’s ‘waterworks’

Artist Hilda Green Demsky is still ‘Making Waves’

“Making Waves,” an exhibit of oil paintings at The Bronxville Women’s Club through Nov. 30, continues artist Hilda Green Demsky’s fascination with water.

She grew up on the banks of the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania, a memory that inspires her watery creations wherever she travels.

Demsky captures the mood and forces of nature while painting outdoors in New York’s parks and woods and also on the coast of Maine, where she spends time in the summer soaking up the light and movement of the tides.  This past summer she lived in Corea, Maine, in a fisherman’s cottage on a wharf covered with lobster traps. The colors and textures of water there fill her canvases.

As a former artist-in-residence at Acadia National Park on Maine’s Mount Desert Island, Demsky finds the rocky coves similar to Manor Park in Larchmont.  She paints the rocky coastline with the confidence of one who has spent a lifetime catching the glimmer of light on the action of the waves.

There’s a reception for the artist’s new show from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7 at the club, 135 Midland Ave. Otherwise you can see the exhibit 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays or by appointment with the artist, 914-318-4443 or hildademsky@gmail.com.
