Emily Tabin, profiled in the November WAG (Passionate Pursuits) – has sent out a friendly reminder about the new season of the Westchester Jazz Orchestra.
And we’re happy to pass along the details provided by Tabin, the organization’s founder and executive director.
The group’s 10th-anniversary season – congratulations from WAG! – will kick off with “West Side Stories,” big-band interpretations of Leonard Bernstein’s musical, at 8 p.m. Sept. 29 in Dobbs Ferry.
Prior to the show, at 7:15, artistic director Mike Holober will host “Open Mike,” a discussion about arranging for a jazz orchestra. Jazz radio personality Gary Walker of WBGO will serve as emcee for the evening, to be held at The Masters School, at 40 Clinton Ave.
The WJO concert season will continue with events at the Irvington Town Hall Theater, in December and February, before concluding in April at Tarrytown Music Hall.
