Lest we forget

Remember Kristallnacht, an event that foreshadowed the Holocaust, with three upcoming lectures.

In the aftermath of the 11 slain at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, it might be well for us to remember, too, the 80thanniversary of Kristallnacht, the “Night of Broken Glass,” Nov. 9 through 10, when the Nazis vandalized Jewish stores, temples and homes in Germany in an event that foreshadowed the Holocaust. On Wednesday, Nov. 7, Rafael Madoff, historian and founding director of the David S. Wyman Institute for Holocaust Studies, will discuss “FDR, Immigration Policy and the Jews” at Manhattanville College, Anderson Hill Road and Purchase Street in Purchase. The college’s Department of World Religions and the Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center are co-sponsors of the 7 p.m. lecture. Click here to register.

On Monday, Nov. 12, John Roth, the Edward J. Sexton professor emeritus of philosophy at Claremont McKenna College, will deliver a lecture titled “We Are in This World to Do Good: Ethics During and After the Holocaust” at Iona College’s Spellman Hall, 715 North Ave. in New Rochelle. The talk begins at 7:30 p.m. Click here to register.

On Wednesday, Nov. 14, Bonnie Pollak, adjunct professor at Yeshiva University’s Waurzweilver School of Social Work, will discuss the “Intergenerational Transmission of Trauma” at the Jewish Community Center of Harrison, 130 Union Ave. The talk begins at 7 p.m. Click here to register.
