Pops is tops

The New York Pops held its 29th Birthday Gala at Carnegie Hall proceeded by a black-tie dinner at The Plaza Hotel last month. The night was a star-studded affair, featuring some of the biggest names on Broadway. (Three-time Tony nominee Marin Mazzie was one of the night’s hits ,along with Tony award-winning “Book of Mormon” star Nikki M. James, young Lewis Grosso from “Newsies” and LaChanze, star of “The Color Purple.”) Patrons of the arts and performers gathered in the stunning concert hall to celebrate the Pops and honor Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, the Tony Award-winning songwriting team. And the next morning, some of the evening’s participants, like “Porgy and Bess” star Norm Lewis, woke up to learn of their 2012 Tony nominations.
