Quite the glamorous find

There are collectors who seek certain items, say vintage baseball cards or rhinestone bracelets, while others might be devoted to designs from a particular period in time.

A new book from Thames & Hudson is sure to delight both.

“Art Deco Collectibles: Fashionable Objets from The Jazz Age” ($55) by Rodney and Diana Capstick-Dale is a virtual, picture-book journey through that romanticized period.

Spotlighting “portable classics” from the United States and Europe, it’s an intimate entry into those sophisticated days. In the spotlight are small personal items of both men and women, with countless colorful examples of cigarette cases and lighters, powder compacts and cosmetics accessories, watches, jewelry and even cameras. Together, write the authors, the featured items “represented the height of fashion during those heady decades, and demonstrated the excitement and modernity of the age.”

With detailed essays introducing each chapter, illustrations of related memorabilia and a dazzling collection of objects, the book will no doubt find space in many a collector’s library.
