With summer now in full swing – and many of us getting ready to entertain over the upcoming holiday weekend – we wanted to suggest a way to add a bit of international flair to your festivities.
Aveleda Portugal wines provide a lovely complement to outdoor dining, the brand itself drawing on a rich family history that adds to its story.
“The wines that we produce, since 1870, are a testament to our commitment to sustainable innovation that’s based on experience and proven success, while keeping our family-owned tradition and approach,” says António Azevedo Guedes, CEO of Aveleda estate and winery and a fifth-generation descendant of the company’s founder.
Here are the tasting notes, as provided by the company, for a few selections:
Quinta da Aveleda 2013 – “A blend: the notes of the Loureiro varietal are merged to perfection with the fruit of the Alvarinho, resulting in a complex, elegant wine with a long, persistent after-taste.”
Aveleda Vinho Verde 2013 – “A blend: the perfect reflection of the character of the region using the main native grape varietals Loureiro, Trajadura, Arinto.”
Aveleda Alvarinho 2013 – “100% Alvarinho: showing a long, fruity after-taste with notes of passion fruit, white flowers and citrus.”
Casal Garcia Rosé 2013 – “A blend: fresh pink, fruity wine with a solid structure thanks to the Vinhão, red Azal and Borraçal grapes coming from selected producers in the Vinhos Verdes region.”
At $10 or less, these wines make a good choice for larger parties.
