Sand-swept

Sandblast! Sand Sculpture Festival returns to Greenwich Point Park this weekend.

Pack up your shovels, pails and sunscreen. The town of Greenwich Parks & Recreation and The Greenwich Arts Council are teaming once again to host the annual Sandblast! Sand Sculpture Festival this Saturday, July 21, at Greenwich Point Park from noon to 2 p.m.

Sponsored by Greenwich Avenue staple Meli-Melo and beach accessory brand Beachmate, the event welcomes all participants looking for a day of family fun, friendly competition and creativity at the beach. Participants must check in at the middle pavilion on the beach to receive a flag signifying their sculptures are to be judged.

Perhaps the best part of all? Everyone is a winner! To ensure a fun day had by all, Meli-Melo is giving each participant a gift certificate to the restaurant, while the winner of the grand prize will be awarded an item from Beachmate’s line of products. No sand sculpture experience necessary.

In the event of inclement weather, the contest will be held the following day from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Remember, entry into Greenwich Point Park requires a town-issued beach pass and parking sticker. Fear not, nonresidents: Single day passes can be purchased if you wish to join in on the fun. Information on guest passes can be found at greenwichct.org.
