‘Spring’ing into fall

It’s spring in autumn once again as the White Plains Beautification Foundation holds its annual gala.

Where would White Plains – the seat of Westchester County government – be without the White Plains Beautification Foundation?

Its handiwork is relished by all, even if you don’t know it. Floral displays at Ridgeway and Mamaroneck Avenue, the giant basket on South Broadway and White Plains Post Road, the clock at Mamaroneck Avenue and Bloomingdale Road: These are among the sights that delight passersby.

The foundation’s annual fall gala, to be held Oct. 18 at Westchester Hills Golf Club from 6 to 10 p.m., supports the planting, maintenance and watering of 63 gardens throughout the city, as well as the Arbor Day, Daffodil and School Grants Programs.

This year’s “Basket in the Park” event celebrates the new basket as well as the peripatetic Barbara and Richard Dannenberg,  who have sponsored it for 20 years. The other honorees are Richard Hope and Stefania Mignone, commissioner and deputy commissioner respectively of the White Plains Department of Public Works.

The gala features cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, dinner, a silent auction and a raffle. It’s always a night of food, fun and fellowship.
