Svetlana and the Delancey Five – a staple of the New York jazz scene — will offer a rare local concert on the front lawn of Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport on Saturday, May 15.
Vocalist Svetlana Shmulyian and the quintet are known for their high-energy blend of jazz standards from the 1920s through ’40s and contemporary original music. Svetlana and the Delancey Five have headlined many sold-out shows in the United States, including at the Blue Note, Iridium and Joe’s Pub. The band has toured internationally, appeared on national and international TV programs and been featured in numerous news and music publications, including The Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post, All About Jazz, Broadway World and more.
“We’re enormously proud to present Svetlana and the Delancey Five to our community,” Robert Kwan, Trinity Southport music director, said in a statement. “This will be a fun, family event that will make everyone smile. We are looking forward to an afternoon of great jazz and swing favorites geared toward all ages. There will be something for everyone.”
Attendance at the 3 p.m. event will be limited to 100, and no one will be admitted without masks and advance tickets. Attendees should bring their own chairs.
Tickets for the performance – the latest in Trinity’s “Music Under the Spire” series – are $20; $10 for students and senior citizens and $50 for a family (one or two adults, unlimited students). Children age 10 and under are admitted free. The rain date is Sunday, May 16.
