Take fashion, add art

The current issue of WAG is devoted to all things fashion, and we hope you’ve been enjoying the stories.

I was pleased to be able to put the spotlight on Marilyn Heberling and Art to Wear Too, a most stylish Hudson Valley fashion destination.

Heberling, a vibrant woman with a great sense of humor, has definitely put her own stamp on the Cold Spring store since she took over as sole owner some four years ago. She’s got a long history in the Putnam County village and in fashion, as you’ve hopefully read.

Her fashions might be what keep her devoted patrons coming back – but I bet her personality and the store itself are a big part of it, too.

It’s the kind of shop you simply love to spend time in. The surroundings are eclectic, the atmosphere casual. Where else can you shop for a wardrobe that’s as sophisticated as it is unique? Heberling’s got a great eye for what a woman wants – and what will fit various body shapes. And the fashions are surrounded by art. Heberling’s equally committed to showcasing work by artists both local and regional. It all adds up to a shopping experience like no other.

And that sense of humor?

Well, on my most recent visit, I had to smile when I saw what most other stores might simply push to the side as clearance items.

Here, it’s another chance to be unique.

As Heberling told me: “I don’t like the words ‘sale rack’ so I call them ‘leftovers that waited for you.’”

Love it.
