During the holidays, we often serve the same menu to the same people, year after year.
Sure, there’s a lot to be said for the reassuring feeling of those routines – it’s what makes traditions, after all.
But this year, perhaps it’s time to mix things up a bit on the table – or when thinking about holiday gifts for those amateur chefs on your list.
A selection of Watcharee Gourmet Thai Sauces recently arrived at the WAG offices and included Pad Thai, Peanut, Green Curry and Massaman Curry.
The line, launched in 2014 by Thai chef Watcharee Limanon, has become a bestseller in specialty food stores such as Whole Foods as well as online. Designed to bring the authentic flavors of Asia to the table, the collection is handcrafted in small batches from premium ingredients imported from Thailand.
With our samples in hand, WAG took a stab at creating its own dish in the days after Thanksgiving. Drawing inspiration from one of the recipes on the Watcharee site – but adding our own spin – we combined a helping of leftover turkey with potatoes, zucchini, water chestnuts and the Massaman curry sauce. Heated up and served over rice, it proved a worthy rival to that traditional post-Thanksgiving sandwich stuffed with leftovers.
Buoyed by our success, we can’t wait to try the other flavors in our sample pack and already have looked to the online recipes that include crispy wonton pad thai, steamed seafood with peanut sauce and chicken green curry.
The sauces are $9.49 for an 11.75-ounce jar; a gift set includes all four ($40).
