Thursday, Nov. 25, is Thanksgiving Day and a big part of it – along with family and friends gathering for turkey with all the trimmings (or its alternative), “The National Dog Show,” football and an attitude of gratitude – is Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, televised on NBC (WNBC-Channel 4 locally) from 9 a.m. to noon. (It’s followed by the dog show.)
The parade is the world’s largest, tied with Detroit’s in age. Both began in 1924, four years after Philadelphia’s. New floats feature Minnie Mouse on a Disney cruise ship, sculpted elephants and a Heinz Gravy Pirate Boat, a “floalloonicle” – part float, part balloonicle (a balloon maneuvered by a vehicle). Speaking of balloons, the 95th annual parade will give us a new Pikachu and Eevee, Ronald McDonald and, making his debut, Baby Yoda.
May the force be with you and may every day be like Thanksgiving Day.
