We will always love Dolly (and other divas)

Does Dolly Parton know how to celebrate her golden anniversary in showbiz or what?

Does Dolly Parton know how to celebrate her golden anniversary in showbiz or what? The country music crossover superstar has been at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting while gracing one of three covers for The New York Times’ new T magazine devoted to divas. (The other two covers? Why, Patti LaBelle and Barbra Streisand, so primo company.)

Most important, Dolly’s heart is as big as her hair and her sense of humor. (Joking about her numerous plastic surgeries, she always said it took a lot to look this cheap.) She recently donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University for Covid research and has encouraged other 1 percenters to do the same.

We can think of no greater tribute to Dolly than her song “I Will Always Love You,” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0bEZH6ZqG4 which, of course, became a hit for the great Whitney Houston in “The Bodyguard.” (Interestingly, Princess Diana being back in the news because of “The Crown” reminds us that she was to star with Kevin Costner in the sequel. They were in talks right before her untimely death.)

We will always love her, too.
