Working hard at Playland

Playland undergoes renovations.

Playland, the 94-year-old Art Deco-style amusement park overlooking the Long Island Sound in Rye is undergoing a facelift.

With the rehabilitation of the historic Grand Carousel and Derby Racer pavilions complete, according to the Westchester County government website, a number of other renovations are underway, including mitigation of the main rink HVAC system at the Ice Casino; reconstruction of the Playland Towers and Colonnade; rehab of the Bathhouse and South Bathhouse storefronts; restoration of structures for games and food vendors, employee areas, arcades and restrooms; construction of a new switchgear facility; an upgrade of the sprinkler system; renovation of the North and South Administration Buildings, Fountain Plaza and the Main and Pool parking lots; and restoration of the Playland Pool and Central Bathhouse.

With all this construction going on, the Playland site notes that the amusement park won’t open for rides and such until the summer. But the park itself is open to two- and four-legged visitors daily.
