Martha Stewart spotlights homegrown talent

We’ve received the lowdown from Martha Stewart’s team about the Martha Stewart American Made 2016 program, which culminates with Martha Stewart and Sequential Brands Group Inc. celebrating The 2016 American Made Summit Oct. 21 and 22 in Manhattan.

Each year, Westchester’s own Stewart – WAG’s cover gal back in July of 2014 – and the editors of Martha Stewart Living choose 10 of the country’s most inspiring craftsmen in a program that reaches across the food, style, design and technology categories. (You may recall we featured Francesco Clark and Bronxville-based Clark’s Botanicals, a 2014 American Made honoree, in our January 2015 issue).

Well, this year there’s another local honoree – one of the fifth-annual program’s awards recipients is NYCitySlab of Yonkers, which its site describes as “a company dedicated to saving fallen trees and rescuing and recycling beautiful slabs from mulch, destruction and waste, and transforming them into works of art and function for your home.”

The awards will be presented during a reception set for Oct. 21 at One World Observatory.

To continue the celebration, the 2016 Martha Stewart American Made Summit will be held Oct. 22, a day filled with educational, inspirational panels and talks for creative entrepreneurs held at Martha Stewart headquarters. Joseph Abboud, chief creative director of Tailored Brands Inc. – and subject of a past WAG profile – is among those set to participate.

Stewart will lead the roster of speakers in a day that also includes networking and roundtable discussions, targeted learning sessions and an American food tasting cocktail party.
