WAG’s love of jewelry continues to be fueled by Thames & Hudson.
The publisher has just released the latest in its series of books dedicated to different motifs in jewelry.
First, we enjoyed “Flora: The Art of Jewelry” back in 2017. Then we spotlighted “Fauna: The Art of Jewelry” in our April issue.
Now we have the June 19 release, “Figures & Faces: The Art of Jewelry” (128 pages, $24.95), to add to the collection of compact volumes.
In this latest edition, we again are taken on a tour through the treasures of the jewelry collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, this time with a spotlight on designs that explore the human figure.
It’s quite a selection, again brought to life by photographs by Jean-Marie del Moral and text by authors and jewelry experts Patrick Mauriès, a writer and publisher specializing in fashion and design, and Évelyne Possémé, chief curator at the Parisian institution.
We travel through a virtual jewel box of creations, from a stunning brooch by René Lalique from the turn of the 19th century to an enameled ring from the 16th century, likely an Italian design.
We meet cherubs, saints and royalty and encounter eyes, lips and skulls as design elements.
The book, we learn, is the final entry in a trilogy, a fitting conclusion to a grouping that any jewelry lover will want to own – and savor.
