Back at the movies in Bedford

Bedford Playhouse returns with a slate of blockbusters.

Bedford Playhouse says it’s time to go to the movies once again.

The playhouse has followed guidelines from public health experts and the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) – putting into place enhanced safety measures, including a mandatory face covering policy, enforced social distancing except with those in your household/party, capacity limits, staggered show times and increased cleaning and disinfecting procedures.

“reOpening Night” at the playhouse takes place tonight, Oct. 23, and continues through the weekend with a complete lineup of blockbuster films (“Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back,” “Monsters, Inc.,” “La La Land,” “Casino Royale” and “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”), membership extras and a special “Brunch and ‘Bridesmaids’” movie-themed event featuring a brunch menu prepared by chef Gerald Massaud followed by the hit comedy “Bridesmaids.”

“We are thrilled by the outpouring of support from our community over the past several months and can’t wait to get the projectors rolling again,” Michael “Hoagy” Hoagland, the playhouse’s executive director, said in a statement. “We’ve spent this time diligently preparing for ‘reOpening Night’ and are confident that our guests will have a safe and exciting return to the movies.”

Added playhouse chair Sarah Long: “We know the arts bring people together. We look forward to welcoming guests back to enjoy the magic of the cinema safely and comfortably.”

While hours and show times will vary, the playhouse and café will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.  The team is also preparing to launch a number of carefully curated special events and programs to engage the community in new and interesting ways.  If you are looking for a place to host an upcoming event, private rentals of the auditoriums and café are also available.

The Playhouse Café, which has been open since late summer, features a seasonal tapas-style menu and a full bar with craft cocktails. On the heels of a successful two-night bourbon-tasting event, the Playhouse Café will host movie-themed special events and tastings each month. A full menu of dine-in and take-away offerings is available at bedfordplayhouse.org.
