‘Craft’ing sandwiches

Hungry for a sandwich but in the mood for something that’s a step up from your average corner store fare? Look no further than Eastchester’s new eatery, Mason Sandwich Co.

The brainchild of brothers Louis and George Brindley, the sleek shop offers what they refer to as “craft sandwiches” for around $10 each. Some of the “upscale sandwiches” feature roasted pork paired with broccoli rabe, beets and fried goat cheese and beer-battered‎ Chatham cod topped with a red cabbage slaw.

Visiting on a recent bustling Friday before noon, we sit at the counter and sample of one the best-sellers – The Chickwich. The Brindleys’ version of the classic sandwich features crispy buttermilk-fried chicken drizzled with a perfectly spicy maple syrup and topped with house pickles, all sitting inside a potato bun. The delicious combo is also served alongside in-house prepped crispy potato chips.

Looking for a sweet treat to follow your meal? Mason also offers an assortment of milkshake flavors from Nutella to Oreo. And soon, the brothers promise, customers will be able to imbibe a craft beer with their craft sandwich.
