Food, glorious food

The New York Botanical Garden celebrates plant-based food

The New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx knows the way to our hearts – through food and the plants that inspire some of the best cuisine around. Through Sept. 11, the garden serves up “Around the Table: Stories of the Foods We Love.” This multifaceted presentation across the garden’s 250-acre campus features expansive installations of living edible plants; an African American Garden curated by Jessica B. Harris, Ph.D., the leading scholar of foods of the African Diaspora; the work of contemporary artists Lina Puerta and André Trenier; displays highlighting the art and science of edible plants and plant-based cookbooks; and 30 tables designed by Bronx-based artists. Programming for all ages includes “Around the Kids’ Table” in the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden, Wellness Wednesdays with the NYBG Farmers Market and weekend celebrations.
