Hailing ‘New Ro’s Mo’

New Rochelle salutes Yankee great Mariano Rivera.

Fresh from his induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, former New York Yankees relief ace Mariano Rivera  will be honored by the city of New Rochelle Saturday, July 27, with a 9:45 a.m. ceremony at City Hall and parade. This will be followed by a celebration with DJMG Mike Guiliano, food and surprise giveaways, courtesy of the New York Yankees, at the Hudson Park Bandshell.

The parade will feature classic cars and a Gray Line City Sightseeing New York double decker tour bus, along with youth groups, a color guard, local sports teams and marching bands.

The one and a half mile parade route begins at City Hall, 515 North Ave. (southbound), continues to Pelham Road and concludes at Hudson Park. The best viewing spots along the parade route are North Avenue and Pelham Road, and North Avenue at Main Street.

New Rochelle holds a special place for the Rivera family, who once called the city home. Wife Clara is senior pastor of its Refugio de Esperanza church, which the couple renovated. Their son Mariano III graduated from Iona College there.

WAG joins with New Rochelle in offering kudos to “Mo.”
