Lockwood-Mathews eyes a prize

Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum vies for Best Holiday Historic House.

The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum in Norwalk has been nominated “one of the Best Holiday Historic Home Tours in the U.S.” by USA Today for the second consecutive year.

“Last year, we won this prestigious attribution with the help and support of all our Connecticut supporters and fans of the mansion from throughout the U.S.,” said Executive Director Susan Gilgore. “We are truly hoping to rally their support once again this year.”

Handpicked by 10Best Experts from around the country, the museum has been nominated as one of 20 museums and cultural institutions from all over the United States with the most magnificent holiday tour experience. USA Today is now leaving it up to the public to decide who wins the award of “10Best Holiday Historic Home Tour.” Last year, the museum received such a significant number of votes that it was ranked fifth in the nation. The public can vote for the mansion early and often, as the saying goes, now through Monday, Dec. 6 at noon ET.

This year, the museum’s holiday tours will kick off on Wednesday, Dec. 8 and feature the new exhibit “Holiday Enchantment at the Mansion,” curated by museum consultant Stacey Danielson with the assistance of trustees Mimi Findlay and Paul Veeder and the LMMM Curatorial Committee. The show captures the magical excitement of the holiday season with historic-era tree displays, vintage toys, an exploration of the history of Christmas cards, an Aesthetic Movement holiday dinner party table setting and Victorian gowns.

The museum’s 2021 cultural and educational programs are made possible in part by funding from LMMM’s founding patron – the Estate of Mrs. Cynthia Clark Brown; LMMM’s leadership patron – The Sealark Foundation; LMMM’s 2021 season distinguished benefactors – the city of Norwalk and The Maurice Goodman Foundation and King Industries; and LMMM’s 2021 distinguished benefactor for education –The Daphne Seybolt Culpeper Memorial Foundation Inc.
