MCM’s hare-raising new scent

MCM launches new scent and artistic collaboration.

Just in time for spring and Easter comes a new fragrance and artistic collaboration by luxe German fashion house MCM.

MCM x SambyPen takes its theme from Berlin’s street art and graffiti scene as well as @SambyPen’s cheeky youth in Seoul, Korea. The effervescent, limited-edition, unisex fragrance features base notes of white moss, vanilla, woody, musky Ambrox super and sandalwood; middle notes of white peony, jasmine absolute and violet leaf; and top notes of raspberry and apricot in a 50ML bottle that looks like a classic MCM handbag, emblazoned with Haru the Wicked Bunny (inspired by the MCM Rabbit and German Easter Hare) and bold graffiti art.

“As this is my first fragrance collaboration, it felt quite personal to me,” @SambyPen said in a statement. “The scent immediately brought back memories of the many different places I lived in and traveled to around the globe. I wanted to convey the sense of global connectivity and community that we have been missing during the last few years.”

For MCM and its partners, it’s a fusion of complementary scents and sensibilities.

“The shared ethos between MCM and SambyPen resulted in a collaborative project where art, fashion and entertainment blend and the underground converges with luxury,” Dirk Schönberger, global creative officer at MCM, said of the artistic partnership.

Added Baerbel Bureick, chief marketing officer of Inter Parfums Inc., the global licensee for MCM fragrance:

“We’ve always believed there is an inherent connection between fashion and fragrance, fueled by the emotional response to each and love that these two worlds seamlessly intersect in our partnership with SambyPen. Scent can so profoundly recall or evoke a sense of place. Working with SambyPen, our shared intention was to transport the wearer, taking each person on an emotional journey of MCM’s bold heritage through the sensorial experience of using the fragrance.”

It’s a journey that links tradition and modernity, the individual and the group, said senior perfumer Clément Gavarry of Firmenich, creator of the fragrance, adding that the scent was “inspired by tribes of fearless free thinkers.” What he sought was “to design a sustainable blend of classic and modern elements that fuse together to create an attitude of unbridled optimism and powerful connection.”

The fragrance retails for $90 at stores and online. For more, visit mcmworldwide.com.
