More than a few good women

WAG will be among those honored at the YWCA’s virtual “In the Company of Women” event June 19.

It is with great pleasure that we announce that Yours Truly will be among the honorees for the YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester’s 12th annual “In the Company of Women” event taking place June 19 from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. online.

Also being honored are Patricia Keegan, district director for Congresswoman Nita Lowey, as the Community Building Champion, and David Ringler – assistance vice president and senior portfolio adviser for Merrill, a Bank of America company – with the Ally Award. I know Pat from our years as reporters at Gannett Inc. and you couldn’t find a more capable, compassionate colleague. I don’t know David but am looking forward to meeting him virtually, as I am to hearing keynote speaker Belinda S. Miles, president of Westchester Community College and the Y’s Education Champion. Having heard her speak at the American Heart Association one year, I can tell you she’s a powerhouse at the podium.

As for me, I will be accepting the Visionary Achievement Award on behalf of WAG and its creative team, led by publisher Dee DelBello, associate publisher Dan Viteri and managing editor Bob Rozycki.

I don’t have to tell you that the troubling events of the season reconfirm that we need the Y more than ever to give young women a voice and an opportunity to grow and lead in our society.
