Join MoCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) Westport on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 1 to 3 p.m. as the museum tries to break Jackson Pollock’s record for the world’s largest abstract painting.

Local artist Trace Burroughs, who has produced and exhibited in numerous group and solo shows in Fairfield County and beyond, will lead the outdoor family event, which also includes a special concert by New York City’s singing cowboy, Hopalong Andrew, whose high-spirited music has made him a family favorite.

The event will be an attempt to set a Guinness world record for the largest abstract painting (8 feet, 10 inches by 20 feet). The previous record for such a painting was held by a Jackson Pollack canvas (8 feet, 10 inches by 17 feet, 6 inches.)

“We are thrilled to partner with Trace on this event and to be the setting for this world record attempt,” Ruth Mannes, MoCA’s executive director, said in a statement. “We hope to have a great turnout for an exciting family day of music, art and community.”

Participants should wear old clothes and expect to abide by Covid-19 guidelines. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for the concert as well as picnic baskets, or purchase food and drinks from on-site food trucks.

The rain date for the event will be Sunday, Oct. 25 from 1 to 3 p.m. The cost is  $50 per family for MoCA Westport members and $75 per family for nonmembers.

Register for the event at mocawestport.org or 203-222-7070.
