Caramoor welcomes back composer/conductor Rob Kapilow for another installment of his “What Makes It Great” series, streaming live Sunday, May 3 at 3 p.m. Pianist Michael Brown joins him to delve into Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13, the “Pathétique.” During this program, Kapilow will deconstruct, slow down and reassemble this Beethoven masterwork – one of the most popular sonatas by the composer, whose 250th birthday is being celebrated this year. This will be followed by a complete performance by Brown and a Q&A session with both artists (and you).

The Boston Globe writes: “Because Kapilow is so good at what he does, knowledge about how music actually works, how it is put together — as opposed to dry facts about composers’ lives — doesn’t fly away with the whirlwind, but instead lodges in the memory, where (it) can grow.”
