Schulman sings, off Broadway

Veteran Broadway star Craig Schulman will join the Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra (NDSO) for a special performance next month.

“Heroes, Monsters and Madmen” will be presented at 8 p.m. Feb. 4 in the Marriott Pavilion at The Culinary Institute of America at Hyde Park.

Schulman is best-known for his work in the title roles of “Jekyll & Hyde” and Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera,” along with nearly 2,000 performances of Jean Valjean in “Les Misérables,” on Broadway and beyond.

Concert tickets are $25 ($20 for senior citizens and $5 for students).

In addition, Schulman will participate in a NDSO fundraiser, which gets under way at 4 p.m. Jan. 28 at Coppola’s in Hyde Park.

The two-hour event, “Broadway Jukebox,” will give those in attendance the opportunity to request favorite Broadway show tunes. Benefit tickets are $60.

NDSO was formed in 2006 to bring live orchestral music to northern Dutchess County and the surrounding Hudson Valley area. Since the beginning, the orchestra has been conducted by Kathleen Beckmann, who also serves as artistic director.
