Kenneth Cobonpue’s designs made a bold statement at ICFF in Manhattan.

We shared our first report from ICFF, the International Contemporary Furniture Fair, here last week.

But the show, which ran May 21-24 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan, was such a resource of unique design that we’re going to be sharing details over the next few weeks.

First up is a quick spotlight on Kenneth Cobonpue, the Filipino designer considered a master of rattan.

Cobonpue, who trained at Pratt Institute in New York before going on to further studies in both Italy and Germany, was honored as the Designer of the Year when the inaugural edition of Maison et Objet was held in Singapore in 2014.

Here in New York, Cobonopue’s work was artfully placed within a large space on the show floor, its organic and whimsical work definitely causing a stir.

We were charmed first by the Peacock chair, then by the Russell loveseat, both unveiled to great acclaim at the prestigious Salone del Mobile in Milan, Italy, in April.

One look and we knew why.
