United Hospice says ‘Let’s Dance’

United Hospice celebrates community support with ‘Let’s Dance’ gala.

On Oct. 24, supporters of United Hospice gathered to celebrate the support of its community with its “Let’s Dance” gala. Dancers aged 7 to 93 entertained guests at The Hilton Pearl River during the annual gala that featured an evening of dining as well as dancing.

The New City-based United Hospice offers families dealing with serious illness assistance in caring for the patient’s physical demands while also addressing the family’s emotional, social and spiritual needs.  It helps provide access to information so that families can make informed choices about care when time matters most.

For the first time in two years, United Hospice’s executive board, staff, friends and supporters were able to gather in person for a fun and festive evening. The 149 attendees were entertained by dance performances, including “A Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” by longtime supporter Tess McCormack, “Scent of a Woman” by 94-year-old Lucille Pilacamp and “Don’t Be Shy” by Gerri Lavallie as well as performances by professional dancers.

The evening included an awards presentation that honored members of the community who have demonstrated support for United Hospice and the families throughout Orange and Rockland counties that they serve. Honorees included Kevin Mahoney, managing director of The Mahoney Group; Brad Topchick, managing director of Stifel; and Kevin Ward, retired financial adviser. That evening The Dr. Joe and Marsha Rand Community Leadership Award was also presented to community member Chris Cawley of the North West Hospice Charity Fund.

Recalls Cara Pace, United Hospice CEO: Last month’s United Hospice ‘Let’s Dance’ gala was a warm-hearted celebration recognizing the incredible service United Hospice provided throughout the pandemic. United Hospice kept families and patients together and prevented unnecessary readmissions to local hospitals. Its clinical teams covered two counties throughout the pandemic caring for the seriously ill while expanding its service footprint. We are so honored to recognize the incredible service of Kevin Mahoney, Brad Topchik and Kevin Ward…and show appreciation for an incredible community member Chris Cawley with the presentation of the Dr. Joe and Marsha Rand Community Leadership Award.  Our Honorary Chair Tess McCormack Raso summed up the meaning of hospice in her remarks, stating, ‘When modern medicine can no longer add days to your life, hospice adds life to your days.’ United Hospice is so fortunate to have immense community support and (our) event was a testament to the deep support that serves as a backbone to the operations of United Hospice.”
