A honey of an event

It was two years ago that WAG profiled Carla Marina Marchese, founding owner of Red Bee Honey in Weston. How well we remember the sweet sensation of exploring her hives (though not too closely) and discovering how the various flowers that bees pollinate influence the many flavors of her superb honeys.

Now the Italian-trained expert will lead an educational talk and guided tasting of six American honeys paired with local cheese and seasonal produce at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 26, at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich. Participants will learn about the busy pollinators’ relationship to fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, spices – even coffee, chocolate and blue jeans. They’ll also learn how honeybees make their “liquid gold” and how terroir and nectar source determine a honey’s color, aroma and flavor while engaging their senses to discern the unique qualities of each varietal honey.

Marchese is a member of the Italian National Register of Experts in the Sensory Analysis of Honey, where she received her formal training, and the author of “The Honey Connoisseur.” 

Tickets are $65; $50 for Bruce Museum members. The museum is at 1 Museum Drive, off Steamboat Road.
