Biblical proportions

A new book by Fox’s Shannon Bream explores biblical mothers and daughters.

Following up on her book “Women of the Bible Speak,” Fox News Channel anchor Shannon Bream has written “The Mothers and Daughters of the Bible Speak.”

WAG senior luxury travel and beauty writer Debbi K. Kickham recently caught up with her. Here is an excerpt from that interview:

What made you decide to write a book about the Bible?

“I have to tell you that Fox came to me first with this idea, a few years ago. It’s been the greatest gift. God put this opportunity into my lap….Hopefully, it can serve as encouragement to other people.”

I understand that two of your favorite Bible stories involve Ruth and Naomi and Queen Esther. The Book of Ruth, about the widowed Ruth’s devotion to her widowed mother-in-law contains one of the most profound passages in the Bible when Ruth says to Naomi, “Whither though goest, I will go. And whither thou lodgest, I will lodge. Thy people shall be my people. And thy God, my God.”

In the Book of Esther, Esther saves the Jewish people by revealing her own Jewish heritage to her husband, the Persian King Xerxes I.

“I love the relationship between Naomi and Ruth….The two widows have a long journey to confront a life where they will live in poverty….They rely on each other and their faith….coming together in the worst of situations. (A) wealthy landowner sees Ruth’s goodness and honors her for her commitment to her mother-in-law….I love that story.

“Queen Esther of Persia also offers plenty of inspiration. She was orphaned. Her relative, Mordecai, takes her in, guides her and directs her. She finds her courage and speaks to the king, telling (him) who she really was….that she was Jewish….and saving all the other Jewish people in the process.”

How do you stay spiritual in your everyday life?

The first thing, is to kneel and thank God for this day…. I try to set time to read the Bible and journal. You can offer a private prayer anywhere and God hears us. He doesn’t expect us to be perfect. He is waiting for us to reach out.”
