Lifting up the homeless

545 new pairs of socks for children ages 5 to 18 for Lifting Up Westchester’s Brighter Future Program.

Archbishop Stepinac High School students recently completed two campaigns to support two essential Lifting Up Westchester programs.

Over the course of five days in “Socktober,” Stepinac’s Rotary Interact Club mobilized students, faculty and staff to purchase 545 new pairs of socks for children ages 5 to 18 for Lifting Up Westchester’s Brighter Future Program. The socks will help keep the neediest and most at-risk children warm during the cold weather.

The second drive was undertaken by A Helping Hand, a Stepinac community-minded club formed a year ago to support the homeless who live in the Lifting Up Westchester Shelters. The students donated new face masks and sanitizers to help protect the health of the residents. In the club’s first year, it raised nearly $3,000 for the nonprofit. In addition, the club has also donated clothing and prepared meals for 90 individuals.
