What do you do when you grow up loving every kind of chocolate, and you want to start a business?
Well, if you’re Jessica Harney, you co-found a fantastic woman-owned business called Chocolux. I recently discovered this bountiful boutique at Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, and it is a treat in every sense of the word. I conducted an exclusive interview with Harney and she filled me in on her shop, filled with spectacular sweets from around the world.
“My grandmother owned a candy store, and I grew up in the arena of chocolate and candy,” she told me.
Indeed, her store is filled with under-the-radar chocolate brands that will tantalize your taste buds. “We feature about 20 brands around the globe,” she added.
One of the best sellers is the beautiful Norman Love chocolates – absolutely gorgeous, colorful, mini-works of chocolate art that cost $2.95 each. Another fave is the Cup of Cheer for Christmas, featuring Kahlua, Bailey’s and chocolate ganache. But I must admit, my favorite is the chocolate-hazelnut praline truffle with fabulous filberts and crunchy caramelized praline. The Sicilian Pistachio is also a winner.
Other brands in the store include Lindt; Godiva; Neuhaus; and Goldkenn, which makes a special Captain Morgan Spiced Rum chocolate with Cointreau and another liquor-filled chocolate with Famous Grouse whiskey.
I also love that she carries the award-winning Vosges Chocolates, featuring a chocolate bar made with five spices, including cloves and star anise.
Vegan? Try the Hemp Love variety with lavender salt. Like sweet and salty? Try Sweet Pete’s Chip Chip Hooray.
Sugar-free? Then Tom & Jenny’s is a must.
It’s all chocolate, so it’s all good.
